Can diabetics do ketosis?

My friend is trying the keto diet and says it's great for weight loss and controlling blood sugar. I have type 2 diabetes and have been trying to manage my weight too. Can diabetics actually do a ketosis diet safely, or is it too risky?

I am so scared of trying this because I read ketosis can sometimes turn into diabetic ketoacidosis, which is a major emergency. Has anyone here actually tried it safely? I would love to know if it's worth the stress.

Ketosis is a complex metabolic state and can be risky if you are on diabetic medication. It is always better to get a complete blood panel done and get it checked by your physician first. Safety should be your top priority.

Arrey, keeping up with normal diabetes is exhausting enough, now people want to manage ketosis too! Honestly, I stick to skipping my evening sweets and that is victory enough for me. Keep it simple, life is too short.

Totally agree that it can be risky. Just make sure to monitor your blood sugar levels multiple times a day if you attempt this.

I track all my macros on my fitness app, and getting into ketosis while diabetic is quite a tightrope walk. If you use a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor), you can actually see how your body reacts in real-time. It really helps to have that data.

Please don't take this lightly. I ignored my symptoms while trying a low-carb experiment and ended up severely dehydrated with high ketone levels. Go get a proper clinical checkup before trying any extreme metabolic changes.

Instead of aiming for strict ketosis which is very hard on the body, I found relief in simple lifestyle adjustments. Drinking warm methi water in the morning and eating fiber-rich grains worked wonders for my sugar. Maybe try some gentle home habits first.

I completely understand how overwhelming it feels to constantly worry about what to eat. When I tried to force my body into ketosis, I felt so miserable and guilty whenever I failed. Please be gentle with yourself, mental peace matters too.

I have both thyroid issues and fluctuating sugar, so I know how sensitive our hormones are. Any extreme diet can throw things off balance. Make sure to get regular thyroid and HbA1c tests done and follow up with your doctor before changing anything.

Hey! Just a practical tip: if you are on SGLT2 inhibitors or insulin, aiming for nutritional ketosis can sometimes trigger a dangerous spike in ketones. Keep a ketone testing strip handy at home if you decide to go ahead with this.
