Can diabetic people eat fruit?

My doctor gave me a list of foods to avoid due to my diabetes, but was a bit vague about fruits. Some friends say fruits are bad, others say they are good. Can diabetic people eat fruit, or should I be very careful about which ones?

Don't blindly believe people on the internet saying all fruits are safe. Some fruits like mango and grapes can spike your levels instantly. Always get your HbA1c checked and take a customized diet chart from your doctor.

Fruits are fine as long as you choose low-GI options like apples or guava. I usually go for a brisk 20-minute walk after having any fruit to help manage the insulin spike. Just make sure your doctor clears you for regular exercise first.

My mom was told she can have fruits, but only whole ones—no fruit juices at all! The fiber in whole fruits helps slow down sugar absorption. Papaya and apple are her daily favorites now, in limited amounts of course.

I am looking for fruits my grandma can eat safely in the evening. Is guava really safe for diabetes, or should we avoid fruits completely after sunset? I am a bit confused.

Simple rule is to avoid high-sugar fruits like mangoes, bananas, and litchis. Stick to pear, apple, or orange and eat them as a mid-morning snack instead of with lunch. This keeps things budget-friendly and easy to manage.
