Can diabetic ketoacidosis kill you?

My uncle recently had a severe episode of diabetic ketoacidosis, and we were all very scared. It looked like he might not make it. I wanted to understand, can diabetic ketoacidosis actually be fatal if not treated quickly?

Yes, absolutely. I was hospitalized in the ICU just last month with DKA. My breathing became extremely rapid and I was vomiting constantly before passing out. If you feel extremely thirsty, confused, or smell a fruity odor on your breath, please go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

This is a very serious condition, child. When the body has too much acid, no home remedy can cure it. If someone is vomiting or feeling very weak with high sugar, don't waste time with herbs; immediately take them to a big hospital.

Yes, it is extremely fatal and ICU stay for DKA can cost thousands of rupees daily. To prevent this financial and medical nightmare, buy a cheap urine ketone strip pack from the pharmacy and test whenever your glucometer shows sugar above 240. Regular monitoring is much cheaper than emergency hospital bills.

Bro, DKA is no joke, it can literally kill you within hours if ignored. I had it during my college exams when I stopped taking my insulin regularly. My chest was tight and I couldn't even stand up. Just rush to the ER if your sugar is over 250 and you feel sick.

Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) is indeed a life-threatening medical emergency. It happens when the body cannot use sugar for energy and starts burning fat too fast, releasing toxic ketones. Immediate hospitalization with IV fluids and insulin is the only way to treat it, so please seek emergency medical care.

I am newly diagnosed and this sounds very scary. Is diabetic ketoacidosis something that happens suddenly, or does it build up over many days? How can we check for it at home before it gets this dangerous?
