Can diabetes make you go blind?

My grandfather lost his vision due to diabetes complications. I have newly diagnosed diabetes and am very concerned. Can diabetes really lead to complete blindness if not controlled?

Yes, it is very true, high sugar damages the eyes over time. I tried many home remedies like eating gooseberries and washing eyes with cold water, but honestly, only strict sugar control and proper medical eye checkups will save your eyesight.

I know everyone is busy with work, but please take 2 hours out of your weekend to get a dilated eye exam done. Diabetes-induced vision loss is silent and irreversible once it starts, so don't delay it.

Yes, diabetic retinopathy is a major complication that can lead to permanent vision loss if left untreated. It is absolutely crucial to have your retina evaluated by a qualified ophthalmologist at least once a year.

This is exactly why my mom yells at me when I try to steal extra sweets from the fridge! High sugar really can ruin your eyesight, so we have to control our cravings and keep our blood levels stable.

My doctor explained that chronic high glucose levels weaken the tiny blood vessels in the retina, causing them to leak fluid or bleed. This can lead to blindness if ignored, so maintaining an HbA1c under 7 is extremely important.
