Can diabetes give you diarrhea?

My mother, who has type 2 diabetes, has been having frequent bouts of diarrhea lately. It's really affecting her daily life. Can diabetes itself cause this kind of stomach problem, or should we be looking for other reasons?

Man, as if having high sugar wasn't enough, tummy issues also join the party! Actually, some common diabetes medications like metformin can seriously upset your stomach in the beginning. If it gets too bad, please check with your doc instead of staying awake all night like me.

I have seen this in our group quite often. Frequent diarrhea in diabetic patients can either be a side effect of medication or diabetic neuropathy affecting the bowel. Keep yourself hydrated and talk to your healthcare provider to adjust the dose.

Actually, nerve damage due to chronic high sugar can mess up your digestion, yaar. It can cause both constipation and loose motions. If this is happening constantly, please let your doctor know soon.

Yes, diabetes can indeed cause diarrhea, especially if you have autonomic neuropathy. Please consult your physician to identify the exact cause.

When your gut health goes for a toss, it ruins your active routine. High blood sugar can affect stomach motility. Once your doctor gives you the green light and helps settle your stomach, gentle daily walking can really help regulate digestion.
