Can diabetes cause sciatica?

This terrible shooting pain down my leg, starting from my lower back, has been troubling me, making it hard to walk. My doctor suspects sciatica. I'm also diabetic for many years, so I'm wondering if there's a link between diabetes and sciatica.

Yes, nerve pain can be worsened by high sugar, but MRI scans for sciatica can cost up to 5,000 to 8,000 rupees. I suggest starting with a basic HbA1c test and visiting a government hospital or a general physician first to get a proper referral. Plan your tests logically to save on unnecessary clinic visits.

Sciatica and diabetic neuropathy can both cause severe shooting pain down the leg, and they need completely different treatments. Please do not assume it is just a simple backache or try self-treatment at home. It is absolutely essential to get a proper neurological checkup to find the real cause.

I had this terrible shooting pain down my left leg last year and completely panicked thinking my diabetes was destroying my nerves. Actually, it just turned out to be a mild muscle pinch from bad posture. Once I managed my sugar and did some basic physiotherapy, the pain completely vanished, so please don't stress!

Actually yaar, diabetes can make your nerves super sensitive, so even a mild back issue can feel like severe sciatica. I had this classmate whose dad went through the same thing. Don't sit on it though, get a doc to check it out properly instead of guessing.

I have seen many diabetic patients in this group suffer from radiating leg pain. Diabetes can compromise the blood supply to your nerves, making you more vulnerable to sciatic nerve compression. Please consult your physician, keep your sugar levels under tight control, and consider physiotherapy under expert guidance.

Please don't start trying random yoga stretches or buying herbal oils off the internet for sciatica pain. If you have diabetes, nerve pain can be a sign of something that needs proper medical intervention. Get a formal diagnosis from an orthopedist or neurologist first.

While diabetes can cause nerve inflammation that mimics sciatica, keeping your sugar controlled through a clean diet is step one. If your doctor allows, light core-strengthening exercises and hamstring stretches can really help relieve that lower back pressure. Just don't lift heavy weights until you get diagnosed.
