Can diabetes cause constipation?

For the past few months, I've been struggling with quite a bit of constipation, even though my diet hasn't changed much. My diabetes diagnosis is relatively new, so I'm trying to understand all the ways it might affect my body. Is there a link between diabetes and having trouble with bowel movements?

Haha, as if high sugar levels weren't painful enough, now we have to deal with a jammed system! Yes, diabetes can damage the nerves in your gut, slowing down digestion. Drink lots of water and keep things moving, my friend!

My mother always tells me to drink warm milk with a little ghee at night for constipation, which does help. However, since you have diabetes, this could be due to autonomic neuropathy affecting your bowel movements. Please do consult your doctor for a proper solution.

Hey, don't stress too much about this. Yes, high sugar can slow down your digestion quite a bit and cause bad constipation. Try adding more fiber to your meals and talk to your doc if it's bothering you too much.

Over the years, I have seen many people in our community complain about this. Diabetes can cause gastroparesis or nerve damage in the intestines, which leads to constipation. Focus on physical activity and check with your doctor before taking any regular laxatives.
