Can diabetes cause astigmatism?

Having Type 2 diabetes, my eye doctor recently told me I developed astigmatism. I'm wondering if this is just a coincidence or if my diabetes could actually be a factor in causing astigmatism. Is there any connection between the two?

At my age, my eyes are already playing tricks on me! But seriously, diabetes doesn't directly cause astigmatism, which is a shape issue of your eye cornea. High sugar just causes temporary blurriness, so don't blame your sugar for everything.

Please be very careful with eye changes. While diabetes doesn't cause astigmatism, it can cause diabetic retinopathy which is far more serious. If you notice any sudden changes in your vision, go see an eye specialist immediately.

Actually, my ophthalmologist explained that while diabetes can cause temporary refractive errors due to swelling of the lens, it doesn't structurally cause corneal astigmatism. It is very important to get a dilated eye exam to check what is actually causing your vision shift.

Hey bro, I have both diabetes and astigmatism. From what my doctor told me, they are not directly related. Astigmatism is just a natural curvature issue of your eye, while diabetes affects the blood vessels in your retina if not controlled.

I have had astigmatism since childhood and it is basically just about the shape of my eye. My dad has diabetes, and his doctor said sugar spikes just make eyes blurry, but don't actually give you astigmatism. Hope this helps!
