Can diabetes blurred vision be corrected?

Having diabetes for many years, lately, my vision has become quite blurry, which my doctor says is due to my diabetes. I'm really struggling with daily tasks because of it. Is this diabetic blurred vision reversible or correctable with treatment?

Yes, it can be corrected if caught early, but don't rush to buy expensive new glasses immediately. When your blood sugar fluctuates, it causes temporary swelling in the eye lens. Get your sugar stable first, otherwise you'll waste money on glasses that won't fit your vision next month.

My doctor told me that high sugar pulls fluid into the lenses of the eyes, causing temporary blurriness. It usually goes away once your blood glucose is stable for a few weeks. But she also emphasized getting a dilated eye exam every year to ensure no permanent damage to the retina.

Blurred vision in diabetic patients should never be self-managed or ignored. While it is often temporary and linked to glucose spikes, it can also indicate diabetic retinopathy. Consulting an ophthalmologist for a proper retinal screening is the safest path.

A lot of times, temporary blurred vision is just due to high blood glucose. If your doctor allows, getting back to regular physical activity like a 30-minute brisk walk can help bring your glucose levels down naturally, which usually clears up the mild blurriness.

Yes, once your blood sugar levels return to normal, the blurred vision often improves. However, you must see an eye specialist to rule out diabetic retinopathy.
