Can diabetes be brought on by stress?

Under a lot of stress lately due to work and family issues. My uncle recently developed diabetes, and he attributed it partly to his stress levels. I'm worried now, can prolonged and severe stress actually cause or bring on diabetes?

I am not a doctor, but with my PCOS experience, I know stress releases cortisol which directly spikes blood sugar. While stress alone might not cause diabetes, it can definitely act as a major trigger if you are already prediabetic.

Yes, chronic stress is known to affect your hormone levels and blood sugar. Try to take some time out for yourself and keep your mind relaxed.

I have been helping people in this group for years, and stress is a huge, often ignored factor in diabetes. When you are constantly stressed, your body remains in fight mode, raising glucose levels. Focus on simple lifestyle changes and stress management.

Agree with others here. High stress definitely plays a role in raising blood sugar levels, so daily meditation can really help.

Listen, don't blame yourself or stress about being stressed! Yes, mental strain can impact your physical health and blood sugar, but it is manageable. Take it one day at a time, sleep well, and get a simple fasting sugar test done to be safe.
