Can diabetes affect your liver?

Managing Type 2 diabetes for almost 10 years, I try to be careful with my diet. My brother, who is a doctor, casually mentioned checking my liver too. I was unaware of any connection, can diabetes really affect your liver?

I have PCOS, which is closely linked to insulin resistance, and my doctor warned me that it can lead to fatty liver if not managed. I think diabetes has a very similar connection. It's best to be cautious, monitor your diet, and discuss this with your doctor.

Oh, this is something I worry about constantly because fatty liver is so common with diabetic patients. It's scary to think how one thing leads to another. But don't panic, getting regular liver function tests (LFT) can help catch any issues early.

Yes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is highly prevalent in people with Type 2 diabetes. I have to be extremely careful about my carbohydrate intake and avoid sugary processed foods entirely to keep both my glucose and liver enzymes in check.

Ah, the liver and diabetes connection is why I had to say goodbye to my daily sweet cravings and heavy butter chicken. Extra sugar gets stored as fat in the liver, which is no fun at all. Moderation is key if you want to keep your liver happy!

I completely understand how overwhelming it feels to hear about all these potential complications. I used to lose sleep over this. Just take a deep breath; as long as you are keeping your sugars under control and doing basic health checks, your liver should be fine.

Yes, my physician explained that excess glucose in the blood is converted into fat and stored in the liver, leading to fatty liver disease over time. He advised keeping my HbA1c under 7 and getting an ultrasound done once a year to monitor any fat accumulation.

Please don't take this lightly. I ignored my diabetes for years and ended up with Grade 2 fatty liver. It is a silent issue, so please consult your doctor, get your blood tests done, and start managing your sugars strictly before it gets worse.

At 55, it feels like every organ is planning a strike, and diabetes surely doesn't help the liver! It can definitely cause fatty liver. Just eat your green veggies and pretend they taste as good as biryani to keep your liver in line.
