Can depression cause vomiting?

Sometimes when my depression hits very hard, I feel extremely nauseous and have even vomited a couple of times. It feels like my body is reacting physically to the mental stress. Is it possible for severe depression to directly cause vomiting?

Yes, extreme anxiety and depression can upset your stomach and cause a vomiting sensation. For a simple solution, try drinking thin buttermilk or lemonade with a pinch of black salt. But if you are unable to keep any liquids down, go to a clinic.

My son used to vomit whenever he had severe stress or felt emotionally overwhelmed. We started giving him light, home-cooked meals and made sure he drank warm water slowly. Please take care of yourself, emotional stress is very hard on the stomach.

Sipping on ginger-tulsi tea can really help soothe a nauseous stomach during low phases. However, if you are vomiting continuously or feel dizzy, please see a doctor immediately to prevent severe dehydration.

I didn't realize that emotional pain could actually make someone physically vomit. I have been feeling very nauseous lately because of my low mood. Does this symptom go away once you start taking therapy?

Oh absolutely, my gut throws a literal tantrum when I am down, making me feel like puking. It is like my body decides that if my brain is miserable, my stomach must join the party too! Keeping a cold wet cloth on your forehead helps calm it down.

I was researching this because a friend was facing it, and I found out that our gut has millions of neurons connected directly to the brain. When we are deeply depressed, those stress signals can literally trigger the vomiting center in our brain. It is fascinating but so tough to deal with.

Mental distress completely disrupts the digestive fire, or agni, leading to nausea and vomiting. In my experience, practicing gentle deep belly breathing for 10 minutes every morning can help calm your nervous system and steady your stomach.
