Can depression cause migraine headaches?

Suffering from both chronic depression and frequent migraine headaches, it sometimes feels like one triggers the other. I'm trying to understand my symptoms better. Can depression actually be a direct cause or a significant trigger for migraine headaches?

Yes, there is a very strong link between the two. I ignored my severe headaches assuming they were just stress-related, but they turned out to be chronic migraines that needed specialized medication. Please consult a doctor early before the pain gets unmanageable.

Totally, my head throbs like crazy whenever exam stress and low phases hit together. It is honestly the worst combo ever. Staying in a dark room and avoiding screens for a bit usually helps me manage the pain.

I used to panic so much thinking my splitting headaches were a sign of something terrible in my brain. Once my doctor explained that my depression and anxiety were just triggering regular migraines, I felt so relieved. It is a very common physical connection, so try not to worry.

Please get yourself evaluated by a proper neurologist. I kept popping regular painkillers for my 'depression headaches' until I ended up with severe stomach acidity and rebound headaches. Getting professional advice early saves a lot of trouble.

While depression can trigger migraines, also keep an eye on your eating patterns. Skipping meals due to low mood can cause sharp drops in blood sugar, which is a major migraine trigger. Try to eat small, regular meals even if you don't feel like it.
