Can depression cause heart attack?

My sister has been going through severe depression for a long time, and I'm worried about her overall health. I heard somewhere that prolonged depression might even lead to serious heart problems, like a heart attack. Is there a strong link between depression and increased risk of heart attacks?

Actually yaar, depression doesn't directly cause a heart attack out of nowhere, but the chronic stress is not good for your heart health. If you are feeling heavy chest tightness, don't ignore it and get it checked by a doc immediately.

Depression itself doesn't cause a sudden heart attack, but chronic stress can affect your heart over time. If you ever feel severe chest pain or breathlessness, please go to a hospital immediately.

I agree with others that mental strain affects your cardiovascular system over time. Practicing simple breathing exercises daily can help calm your nervous system and protect your heart.

If depression caused instant heart attacks, half of my friends list wouldn't be here. But seriously, worrying about this will only ruin your sleep further, so please close the tabs and try to rest your mind.

Honestly, searching health symptoms on the internet during a breakdown will make you feel like you are having a heart attack. If you are really scared, just talk to a doctor to clear your head instead of overthinking late at night.
