Can depression cause fever?

Sometimes when my depression is really bad, I feel generally unwell and even get a slight feverish feeling, though it's never very high. My family thinks it's all in my head, but I'm curious. Is it possible for depression to actually cause a low-grade fever?

While extreme stress can make you feel hot or flushed, actual fever usually means an infection. If your doctor rules out anything serious and gives the go-ahead, trying a light evening walk can help lower your stress and build up your immunity naturally.

Please take care of yourself. Sometimes when we are carrying too much emotional pain, our body gets exhausted and our temperature can fluctuate. Do rest well and drink plenty of warm water.

Please don't assume a fever is just because of your mood. I once ignored a low-grade fever thinking it was just exhaustion from my depression, and it turned out to be a severe kidney infection. Go get a proper blood test done immediately.

I didn't know this was possible. I have been feeling very down lately and today I woke up with a mild body temperature. Can emotional stress actually trigger a real physical fever, or is it just coincidental?

I used to get psychogenic fevers whenever my depression flared up badly last year. My body would heat up to 99.5 degrees without any infection. Once I started therapy and learned to manage my emotions, those sudden fevers stopped happening.

Over my sixty years, I have seen how much the mind can affect the body. Extreme grief and sadness can make you feel physically sick and feverish, but a real temperature rise needs checking. Rest your mind, but let a doctor check your health first.

Let's be direct: depression can mess with your immune system, making you catch viral bugs easily. But a fever is still a physical symptom of something else. Get a basic CBC test done and see a doctor instead of guessing.

Hey there! Our bodies do crazy things when we are down. Stress can definitely make you feel warm, but do keep a thermometer handy just to track it. Hope you feel better and get some bright sunshine today!

It is so validating to hear this because people always told me it was in my head. When my depression was severe, my body felt heavy and burning hot. Your pain and your physical symptoms are very real, please be gentle with yourself.

If you have a fever, the first thing to do is take rest and check your temperature. Keep a simple log sheet of your morning and evening temperature. If it goes above 100, skip the home theories and visit the local clinic.
