Can depression cause chest pain?

Whenever I have a particularly bad depressive episode, I sometimes experience a tightness or pain in my chest. It's really concerning, even though doctors say my heart is fine. Could this chest pain actually be a symptom or consequence of my depression?

Yes, extreme anxiety and depression can cause muscle tightness and chest pain. However, you should never self-diagnose chest pain. Please go to a proper hospital and get an ECG done just to rule out any actual cardiac issues.

I once ignored mild chest pain thinking it was just my depression and panic attacks, but it turned out to be a blood pressure issue that needed urgent care. Please do not assume it is just mental. Go see a doctor immediately to be completely safe.

When I am depressed, I eat all kinds of spicy street food to feel better, which leads to horrible acidity and chest burn! Sometimes it is hard to tell if the chest pain is from sadness or just that extra plate of chole bhature. But if it feels heavy or spreads, please check with a doc right away.

In our times, we called it heavy-heartedness, but yes, mental sadness can make the chest feel very tight and painful. While you must see a doctor to check your heart, drinking warm ginger water can sometimes help if it is just a gas issue aggravated by stress.

Oh my god, I get this sharp pinching chest pain whenever I feel really down or overwhelmed. Does anyone else get this too, or is it just me? It makes me panic so much, which probably makes the pain even worse.
