Can dehydration give you a fever?

My son was feeling very hot after playing cricket all afternoon, and his temperature was elevated, but he has no other cold symptoms. He didn't drink much water at all. Is it possible for dehydration by itself to cause a fever?

Yes, extreme dehydration can raise your body temperature because your body loses the ability to sweat and cool itself down.

Haha, yes, your body's radiator basically overheats when there is no water left in the tank! It feels like a fever, but a couple of glasses of cold water and sitting under the fan usually cools down the system. No need to panic!

I literally panicked last summer when my temperature hit 100 degrees after working in the hot sun all day. I thought I had Covid or typhoid, but the doctor said my body was just overheated from dehydration. After two bottles of electoral water, my temperature was totally normal.

I am actually a bit confused because my younger brother has a mild warm feeling and hasn't been drinking water. Can a lack of water really cause a proper fever, or is it more like a heatstroke? Should we give him paracetamol or just water?

If you eat super spicy food and then sit under the hot sun without any water, your body is definitely going to boil like a hot pot! Dehydration stops your body from sweating, which shoots up your temperature. Keep sipping cold buttermilk or nimbu paani to stay cool.
