Can dehydration cause throat pain?

My throat often feels dry and scratchy, and sometimes it actually hurts, especially by the end of the day. I know I don't drink enough water. Is it possible that dehydration alone can cause throat pain or soreness?

My ENT doctor explained that dehydration reduces the production of saliva and mucus, which are essential to keep the throat lining moist. Without this lubrication, the throat gets dry, irritated, and highly sensitive, leading to a burning pain when you swallow.

If your throat is dry and hurting, no need to buy expensive throat lozenges straight away. Just do warm saline water gargles twice a day and drink lukewarm water from a thermos. Keeping the throat hydrated is the simplest and cheapest way to cure this.

I used to get severe throat pain every winter because I stopped drinking water due to the cold weather. Now I make sure to drink warm water with a little honey throughout the day. It keeps the throat coated and stops that dry tickling pain completely.

In our home, we drink warm water with a pinch of turmeric and dry ginger for dry throat pain, which works beautifully. However, if the pain is accompanied by a high fever or difficulty in swallowing food, it is always wise to consult a doctor.

I know how annoying it is when your throat hurts so much that you can't even sleep peacefully or speak properly. When I was dehydrated, my throat felt like sandpaper and it made me feel so miserable. Please drink some warm chamomile tea or warm water, it really helps soothe the pain.

People online will tell you that a dry throat is just dehydration, but it could easily be a viral or bacterial throat infection. Don't rely on drinking water as a cure-all. If gargling doesn't help in a day or two, go to a real doctor and get it checked.
