Can dandruff cause baldness?

My dandruff has been really bad lately, and I'm also seeing my hairline receding a bit. My father went bald quite early, so I'm very concerned. Can severe or chronic dandruff actually lead to baldness?

No, dandruff does not cause permanent baldness. It only causes temporary hair fall if you scratch your scalp too much. Try to keep your scalp clean.

In my younger days, I had terrible dandruff and was convinced I would go bald by age 30. But here I am at 65 with a decent head of hair. Dandruff might cause some temporary hair fall due to scratching, but it does not lead to permanent baldness.

While simple dandruff does not cause baldness, severe conditions like seborrheic dermatitis or male pattern baldness are different issues. If you are noticing significant thinning or receding hair, please consult a dermatologist for a proper checkup.

Haan na, even I used to think the same and worry so much! But actually, dandruff only causes mild hair shedding because of the itchy scalp. Don't worry, once you use a good shampoo, the hair starts growing back nicely.

Dandruff is often caused by an excess of dry air or stress in the body. Practicing pranayama like Kapalbhati and regular scalp massage with warm coconut oil can help balance the scalp oils and prevent hair fall naturally.

Applying a mixture of curd and a few drops of lemon juice to your scalp for 20 minutes before washing is a great natural way to reduce dandruff. However, if you are seeing actual bald patches, please see a skin doctor immediately.
