Can cyst in breast turn to cancer?

I recently had a mammogram and the doctor mentioned a small cyst in my breast. My aunt had breast cancer, so I'm naturally very anxious. Can these cysts actually turn into something serious like cancer?

Please don't sit on this thinking it is just a simple cyst. I ignored a small lump in my breast for six months thinking it was normal, and it turned out to be serious. Go get an ultrasound or mammogram done immediately to be absolutely safe.

I have had multiple breast cysts for the last 5 years. Most of them are simple, fluid-filled sacs that are completely harmless and do not turn into cancer. Just do your monthly self-exams and get an annual ultrasound as recommended by your doctor.

My 22-year-old daughter was diagnosed with a breast fibroadenoma, which is like a cyst. We were terrified at first, but her doctor explained that these are very common in young girls and mostly harmless. We just monitor it every six months.

According to my sister's oncologist at Tata Memorial, simple breast cysts are benign and do not increase your risk of breast cancer. However, complex cysts which have solid components need to be closely monitored or biopsied. A proper clinical examination is essential.

My grandmother told me to apply warm herbal pastes, but I directly went to a lady doctor in our town. She did a small scan and reassured me that it is just a water-filled cyst, nothing dangerous. Trust your doctor's word above all else.
