Can croup cause high fever?

My 2-year-old son recently had a bout of croup, which was quite frightening. He also developed a very high fever during that time. I'm wondering if croup typically causes such a high fever, or if it was just a coincidence with another infection.

Yes, croup can sometimes cause a high fever. Please monitor your child closely and consult a pediatrician immediately.

My 3-year-old had croup last winter and his fever touched 102 degrees. It was terrifying with that barking cough, but our pediatrician told us that while mild fever is common, a very high fever means we need to watch out for secondary infections. Keep a cool mist humidifier running and stay in touch with your doc.

I was just reading about croup because my nephew got diagnosed, and apparently, it's mostly a viral infection so a moderate fever is expected. But if the fever spikes really high or the baby struggles to breathe, that is a major red flag. Hope your little one feels better soon!

Do not wait around trying home remedies or steam inhalation if a child with croup has a high fever. Croup can block the airway very quickly, which is highly dangerous. Take the child to a pediatrician or an emergency room immediately to get proper medical assessment.

I use a smart thermometer for my kid and noticed his temperature spiked rapidly during a croup episode last month. A high fever is possible because of the underlying viral infection, but make sure you track their breathing rate too. If you notice any chest retractions or stridor, seek emergency medical care.

My mom told me I had severe croup when I was a kid and my fever went crazy high. She said they had to rush me to the hospital because I was gasping for air. If the kid has a really high temperature and a bad bark, don't waste time, just take them to a doctor.

My toddler literally just recovered from croup last week and her fever was quite high on the first two nights. It was so scary because of the harsh breathing sounds. Our doctor prescribed a single dose of oral steroids which helped bring down the airway swelling and the fever subsided soon after.
