Can crochet cause arthritis?

I love crocheting in my free time, it helps me relax a lot. But recently, I've started feeling some stiffness and pain in my fingers and wrists, especially after long sessions. I'm worried if my hobby of crochet could be causing arthritis.

I love crocheting while munching on chips, but my fingers do get super stiff after a couple of hours! Crochet doesn't directly cause arthritis, but the repetitive motion can definitely flare up joint pain. Take snack breaks to stretch your hands!

Bro, my sister crochets for hours in her hostel room and always complains about hand cramps. It's not actual arthritis, just strain from holding the needle too tight. Just resting your hands for a bit makes it totally fine.

Hey, don't worry. Crocheting won't cause arthritis out of nowhere. It just strains your fingers if you do it without breaks. Try using ergonomic hooks with thick grips; they make a huge difference and protect your joints.

We get this question quite a bit in our hobby groups. Repetitive hand movements can cause wear and tear or make existing arthritis more painful, but it won't cause the disease itself. Just remember to stretch your fingers every 20 minutes.

It is all about blood circulation in your joints. If you sit in one place crocheting for hours, your hands will get stiff. Do some quick wrist rolls and finger stretches to keep the joints mobile and active.
