Can creatine cause vomiting?

I recently started taking creatine supplements for my workouts, as advised by my gym trainer. A couple of times after taking it, I felt a bit nauseous and once I actually vomited. Is vomiting a known side effect of creatine?

Hey, if you're taking huge doses of 10-20 grams at once, it can definitely irritate your stomach lining and cause vomiting. Stick to a safe, small dose of 3 grams per day after a proper meal and see if that resolves it.

Vomiting is not a common side effect of creatine. If you are throwing up, you should stop taking it immediately.

I actually threw up on my second day of creatine loading and got super scared that my body was rejecting it. Turns out I was mixing it with cold juice on an empty stomach. Switching to plain water after food completely solved it for me.

Please stop taking the powder immediately if you are vomiting. You can drink some fresh coconut water or light ginger water to settle your stomach, but if it doesn't stop, please visit a doctor right away to avoid weakness.

My doctor told me that while mild nausea is possible when starting creatine, actual vomiting is rare. It usually happens due to poor product quality, consuming expired supplements, or an underlying stomach infection. He advised me to get a checkup if the vomiting continues.
