Can cranberry cause kidney stones?

I've heard that while cranberry is good for UTIs, it might also contribute to kidney stone formation in some people. My cousin recently had a kidney stone, and he drinks a lot of cranberry juice. I'm wondering if consuming cranberry products can actually cause kidney stones.

Cranberry has high oxalate content, which can theoretically increase the risk of oxalate stones if consumed in excess. You should definitely consult a urologist before starting any regular cranberry extract supplements.

Yes, cranberry tablets are high in oxalates. My fitness tracker showed a drop in my hydration levels when I took them, so make sure to log at least 3 litres of water daily if you consume cranberry.

Hey, don't stress too much! Having a glass of cranberry juice once in a while won't give you stones. Just don't go drinking it like water every single day and you will be absolutely fine.

My nephrologist explained that cranberry concentrate can increase urinary oxalate levels, potentially contributing to calcium oxalate stone formation in predisposed individuals. It is safer to consume it in moderate quantities.

I was taking cranberry pills for a UTI and suddenly felt a mild back ache. Now I'm paranoid that I might be developing kidney stones. Has anyone else experienced this after taking cranberry?

Haan na, too much of anything is bad. Cranberries are good for UTIs but they have oxalates, so drinking massive amounts can trigger stones. Moderate use is key, simple!

Yes, excess consumption can increase the risk due to the oxalates present in it. Please drink plenty of water alongside to keep your kidneys flushed and healthy.

Look, plain cranberry juice is fine, but those concentrated supplements are high in oxalates. If you already have a history of kidney stones, just stay away from them and drink plain water instead.
