Can covid start with diarrhea and vomiting?

My wife had Covid recently, and her first signs were actually severe diarrhea and vomiting, not cough or fever. It made us wonder if we missed something. Can Covid typically begin with gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting before other symptoms appear?

Hey, don't get scared. Yes, it can definitely start this way for some people. Just focus on keeping your fluids up and don't force yourself to eat heavy meals. I'm here if you need to talk, just take it easy.

It was honestly a nightmare for me when it started with severe diarrhea. I felt so weak and helpless, and the anxiety of having covid made it even worse. It is totally okay to feel overwhelmed, just take one day at a time.

Yes, it often begins like this. When we had it, I made warm barley water and buttermilk with a bit of roasted cumin powder. It helps calm the stomach lining. Make sure you don't take empty stomach medicines.

Yes, gastrointestinal symptoms can be the initial presentation. My general physician explained that the ACE2 receptors, which the virus binds to, are highly concentrated in the gut. He advised keeping a close watch on hydration levels.

Please be very careful with this. My father started with just loose motions, but we ignored it thinking it was food poisoning, and his oxygen dropped later. If you suspect covid, get tested and consult a doctor immediately.

I literally just recovered from this last week. The first two days were just vomiting and zero appetite, fever came only on day three. My doctor put me on hydration fluids and it cleared up within five days.

I lost my mind when my husband started throwing up first, thinking it was some new severe complication. But the doctor reassured us that gut symptoms are very standard at the start. It went away soon, so keep calm.

Oh absolutely, it's like a free trial of food poisoning before the actual fever show starts! Just stay close to your washroom and keep the ORS handy. You'll survive this, hang in there buddy.
