Can covid cause severe vomiting?

My younger brother recently tested positive for Covid, and he's experiencing really severe vomiting, almost non-stop for the last few hours. We usually hear about respiratory symptoms, so this is quite concerning. Is severe vomiting a known symptom of Covid infection?

Yeah, absolutely. When I got Covid last year, I spent the first two days literally hugging the toilet bowl because the nausea was so bad. It definitely hits your gut hard, not just your lungs.

Yes, it can. My grandmother advised us to give ginger tea for the nausea, which helped slightly, but we ultimately relied on the doctor's prescription for anti-vomiting medicine to stop the severe dehydration.

Honestly, the constant vomiting was so exhausting and mentally draining because I felt completely helpless and weak. It is a very real symptom, so please don't feel bad if you are struggling. Do seek medical support.

I just recovered from this last week. The vomiting was so severe that I couldn't even keep water down. My doctor had to prescribe a specific anti-emetic tablet, and eating very light, bland khichdi slowly helped my stomach settle.

Yes beta, Covid can affect the digestive system and cause vomiting. Keep drinking small spoonfuls of ORS water frequently, eat nothing heavy or oily, and if the vomiting does not stop in 24 hours, consult your doctor.

Oh, don't stress too much! Gastrointestinal symptoms like vomiting are actually super common with some Covid variants. Just make sure to sip on ORS or coconut water so you don't get dehydrated, and rest up.

I panicked so much when my Covid started with projectile vomiting instead of a cough! But the hospital helpline assured me that gastrointestinal Covid is very common. It stopped within 3 days with basic medication.
