Can covid cause elevated liver enzymes?

My routine blood tests, done a few months after Covid recovery, recently showed that my liver enzyme levels are slightly elevated, which wasn't the case before. I'm wondering if Covid could have affected my liver and caused this increase.

Yes, liver enzyme elevation (like SGOT and SGPT) is actually quite a common post-viral complication of Covid, often due to systemic inflammation or medication. It's best to consult a physician who can guide you on repeat liver function tests.

Yes beta, the stress of the infection and strong medicines can temporarily affect your liver enzymes. Drink plenty of water, eat simple home-cooked food, and avoid taking random painkillers without asking your doctor first.

I recovered from Covid two months ago and my routine blood work showed high liver enzymes. My doctor told me not to panic, prescribed some basic liver support supplements, and advised me to avoid oily food and alcohol. They came back to normal in my next test.

Yes, it absolutely can. Many people see elevated SGPT levels after recovery, but they usually settle down in a few weeks.

I totally get it, seeing abnormal values in your blood report can be really scary. But please rest assured that Covid-induced liver enzyme elevation is very common and usually self-limiting. Just keep your doctor in the loop.
