Can covid cause diabetes?

My father was diagnosed with diabetes a few months after he recovered from a severe Covid infection. We were quite surprised as he had no family history of it. Could Covid infection have been the cause of his diabetes, or is it just a coincidence?

Hey, don't stress too much about this. While some studies say Covid can sometimes mess with pancreatic cells or spike sugars, it's usually temporary or happens to people already at risk. Just get a quick HbA1c test to be sure.

This actually happened to my uncle. Post-covid, his blood sugar levels shot up to 300 out of nowhere. His doctor explained that the virus can affect insulin production, but with proper medication and diet, his levels are normal now.

My biology professor was actually talking about this. Apparently, Covid can cause inflammation that messes with how our body uses insulin. It's better to just get a blood checkup done at a local lab to be safe.

Oh God, I read about this too and got so anxious that I tested my fasting blood sugar three days in a row! It can apparently trigger diabetes in some because of stress or steroid treatment during recovery. Definitely get a doctor's opinion if you notice extreme thirst.

As if Covid wasn't enough, now we have to worry about it taking away our sweets too! Jokes aside, yes, sometimes the heavy steroids given during Covid treatment can temporarily push sugar levels up. Get it checked, it might just be temporary.
