Can coughing cause chest pain?

Suffering from a bad cold and cough for almost a week now, every time I cough deeply, I get a sharp, aching pain in my chest. Is this a normal thing when you cough a lot, or should I be concerned?

Yes, coughing repeatedly can strain the rib muscles and cause soreness, but chest pain can also be a sign of something more serious. Please get it checked by a doctor to rule out any lung infection or heart issue.

Don't just assume it is a muscle pull and start drinking herbal teas. Chest pain from coughing needs to be evaluated properly by a medical professional to ensure it is not pneumonia or pleurisy. Better to get a clinical diagnosis.

Constant coughing stretches and tires the chest muscles, which naturally causes soreness. Try taking steam inhalation to reduce the coughing fits and apply a warm compress to your chest for pain relief.

With our busy schedules, we often ignore these things. Coughing definitely strains the chest wall muscles, but if the pain is sharp or you are running a fever, save yourself time and anxiety by doing a quick doctor consultation today.

I have been coughing for three days and now my ribs hurt every time I breathe in. I am so scared it is something serious. Has anyone else felt this kind of sharp rib pain just from coughing?

Don't panic, chest soreness from a heavy cough is very common because those muscles are working overtime. But listen, if the chest pain is crushing, makes it hard to breathe, or spreads, go straight to the clinic immediately, okay?
