Can coughing cause a heart attack?

Non-stop coughing for a few weeks has really strained my chest, and it's putting a lot of pressure. My neighbour, who has heart issues, told me that very strong coughing could somehow trigger a heart attack. Is there any truth to this worry, especially since I'm getting older?

Coughing itself does not cause a heart attack, but severe coughing fits can temporarily increase your blood pressure and heart rate. If you already have cardiovascular issues, it's important to keep your BP managed and get regular heart checkups.

My son had a severe asthma cough that used to make his chest so tight we were terrified it would hurt his heart. His pediatrician explained that while coughing strains the chest muscles, it doesn't cause a heart attack. Keep the cough managed with proper steam and meds.

Please be very careful. If coughing is accompanied by crushing chest pain, radiating pain to the left arm, or severe sweating, do not assume it is just muscle strain from coughing. Go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

When my father had a severe bronchitis bout, we went to a cardiologist to ask about this clearly. The doctor said coughing doesn't cause a heart attack, though it can mimic chest pain due to muscle soreness. Always consult a specialist to be 100% sure.

Having thyroid issues has taught me that we shouldn't guess when it comes to chest symptoms. A normal cough won't trigger a heart attack, but if you have persistent chest discomfort, it is best to get an ECG and doctor consultation done.

Coughing doesn't cause a heart attack, but diabetic patients must remember that heavy respiratory infections can strain the cardiovascular system. Keep your sugar levels under control and make sure you are resting well during a bad cough.

Listen, simple answer is no, a cough doesn't cause a heart attack. But if you are feeling breathless, dizzy, or have actual chest pressure, stop searching on the internet and go straight to a doctor. Better safe than sorry.
