Can constipation cause pain right side?

I just went through this last week. I had a dull, heavy ache on my lower right side due to a bad bout of constipation. Once my stomach cleared up after taking some fiber, the pain totally went away.

I am feeling a dull ache on my right side today and I'm really anxious. Can constipation really cause pain on the right side as well, or is it usually only on the left? Has anyone else experienced this?

Please be very careful with right-sided pain. I thought my right-side ache was just from constipation, but it turned out to be appendicitis and I had to get emergency surgery. Please go see a doctor to rule that out.

Hey, don't worry too much. The colon loops all around, so a buildup of stool and gas can definitely hurt on the right side too. Try sipping some warm water and walking around to help release the gas.

It can certainly cause right-sided cramping as gas gets trapped in the hepatic flexure of the colon. Try a mild laxative or isabgol, but if you get a fever or the pain becomes sharp and localized, head to a clinic immediately.
