Can conjunctivitis cause a fever?

My son has conjunctivitis, and now he also has a slight fever. I'm a bit worried; can pink eye actually cause a fever, or is it likely a separate infection?

Yes, conjunctivitis can cause a mild fever, especially if it is viral or bacterial. I usually log my temperature on my health tracker when I have eye infections, as tracking the fever's run helps the doctor decide if antibiotics are needed.

I literally just recovered from eye flu last week! Along with red, painful eyes, I also had a moderate fever and body aches for the first three days. The doctor told me it was a viral infection, and both symptoms cleared up together.

I totally get it, dealing with both red eyes and a fever is so exhausting and miserable. Since it is an infection, the body is just fighting it off, which causes the fever. Please take lots of rest and let your eyes heal.

Yes, it is common when the infection is viral. A simple solution is to use clean warm water to gently wipe the crust from the eyes and take a basic paracetamol if the fever is high, but make sure to consult a local doctor for proper eye drops.

Bro, yes, viral eye flu is the worst. I had it during my exams and was down with a 100-degree fever along with completely swollen eyes. Just sleep it off and don't stare at your phone screen too much.

Yes, when my daughter got conjunctivitis from school, she ran a fever too. The doctor explained that viral pink eye often goes hand-in-hand with a cold or sore throat, which brings a fever. Just keep them hydrated and get eye drops prescribed by a doctor.
