Can congestion cause ear pain?

For the past few days, I've had a lot of nasal congestion due to a cold, and now my left ear is also hurting. Can congestion actually cause ear pain?

Hey, don't stress too much! It is super common because our ears and nose are connected internally. Whenever I get a blocked nose, my ears start hurting and buzzing too. Just do some steam inhalation and you will feel much better soon!

Yes, absolutely. The fluid buildup in the sinuses pressure-locks the ears, causing sharp pain.

Beta, the Eustachian tube connects the nose to the ears, so congestion easily causes blockages there. You can do gentle warm compresses around the ear for relief. But remember, never put any drops or warm oil directly inside the ear without a doctor's permission.

Yes, sinus pressure from congestion regularly triggers severe ear aches for me. Because of my thyroid issues, I have to be very careful with infections, so I always get my ears checked by an ENT specialist to make sure it's not a secondary infection.

Don't worry, it's very normal for congestion to travel up and cause ear pressure and pain. Just make sure you aren't blowing your nose too hard, as that can make the ear pain worse. If it doesn't settle down in a day or two, let's get a doctor to look inside the ear.
