Can colonoscopy prep cause heart attack?

I have a heart condition and my doctor suggested a colonoscopy. I'm really anxious about the preparation process, especially its effect on my heart. Can the colonoscopy prep cause a heart attack?

The prep causes a lot of dehydration which can temporarily mess with your electrolytes, but a heart attack is extremely rare unless there's a serious pre-existing cardiac condition. Keep yourself hydrated with electoral or coconut water if the doctor allows, and stick to light walking to keep the blood flowing.

I have undergone two colonoscopies in my life, and the prep does make you weak because of all the purging. However, for a normal person, it doesn't cause a heart attack. If you already have severe heart issues, your doctor will adjust the prep fluid to make it completely safe for you.

The prep medicine is very strong and flushes out everything, which can make the body feel dizzy and weak. I always believe in natural healing, but for a colonoscopy, you must follow the doctor's instructions. If you feel any chest pain or heavy breathing during prep, stop immediately and call your doctor.

My grandmother had to go through this prep last year and we were super worried about her heart too. The doctor explained that as long as we keep giving them clear fluids with electrolytes as prescribed, it is quite safe. Just keep the hospital in loop if they feel too weak.

I am actually very scared because my father has to do this prep next week and he has high BP. Is there a specific safe prep solution we should ask the doctor for? I want to make sure we don't take any risks.

Please don't skip the test because of this fear! I once delayed my stomach checkup because of silly worries and regretted it when my condition worsened. Just tell your doctor beforehand if you have any heart history, and they will give you a safe, customized prep solution.
