Can collagen cause vomiting?

I recently started taking collagen powder in my morning smoothie for better skin, but sometimes after I drink it, I feel a bit nauseous. It's not every time, but it has happened a few times. Can collagen supplements cause vomiting or an upset stomach?

I tried taking marine collagen on an empty stomach once, and oh god, the fishy smell made me throw up my breakfast! Now I stick to tasty, normal food. If you can't stomach the taste, don't force yourself, it's not worth the nausea.

Sometimes heavy supplements don't digest well if you are sitting idle all day. I usually take a light walk after my morning routine to keep digestion active. But if collagen is literally making you vomit, your gut is inflamed and you need to stop it.

If you are vomiting after taking collagen, your body is clearly rejecting it or you might be allergic to the source. Stop taking it immediately. Don't waste time trying different brands, just schedule a quick visit with a doctor.

At my age, with high BP, I am very careful about anything that upsets my stomach because stress and vomiting can spike my pressure. If collagen is causing such severe digestive distress, it is a sign to get a proper health checkup done.

Most collagen is made from animal tissues, which can be very heavy on a purely vegetarian stomach to process. This sudden heavy protein load often causes acidity and vomiting. I'd suggest sticking to clean, plant-based protein sources instead.

I had terrible nausea and vomited twice when I first tried bovine collagen. It turns out my stomach is just too sensitive for heavy proteins in the morning. If you must take it, try a much smaller dose with food, or better yet, just get your protein from curd and paneer.
