Can collagen cause kidney stones?

I've been taking collagen for a few months now for my skin, but recently I heard a rumor that it can contribute to kidney stones. My uncle suffers from kidney stones, so I'm very concerned. Is there any truth to collagen causing kidney stones?

I took collagen for a few months and actually ended up with a small stone. My doctor told me collagen has hydroxyproline, which can break down into oxalate in the body and trigger stones. I had to stop it immediately and drink gallons of water.

Instead of these foreign powders, drink fresh coconut water and barley water to keep your kidneys clean naturally. But if you have severe side pain or blood in your urine, do not wait at home. Go to the hospital immediately.

Yes, there is a scientific link. Collagen contains high amounts of the amino acid hydroxyproline, which conversion can increase urinary oxalate levels, a major component of kidney stones. My doctor advised me to avoid collagen completely since I have a family history of stones.

Kidney stones can cause sudden, unbearable pain if they block the urinary tract. If you are taking collagen and feel even a slight ache in your back or lower abdomen, please get an ultrasound done immediately to check for stones.

I always go to Apollo for any health issues, and my physician there explicitly told me to avoid random collagen supplements if I don't drink enough water. It is always better to get a proper consultation and some blood work done before starting these.

Please don't ignore mild back pain while taking supplements. I ignored a dull ache thinking it was just gym soreness, and it turned out to be a 7mm kidney stone. Get yourself checked before the pain becomes too severe to handle.

Look, if you already have a history of stones, why even touch these fancy powders? Just eat your normal homemade food. If you still want to take it, ask a doctor first instead of buying things blindly from Instagram ads.

Haan na, even I heard that taking too much collagen can cause stone issues if we don't drink enough water. It is better to check with a doctor first, ho na? Why take unnecessary risks with our health.

Drinking lots of water and practicing gentle yoga twists can help keep the urinary system active and healthy. However, if your body is prone to producing stones, heavy protein supplements like collagen are best avoided. Listen to your body's natural signals.

The risk of kidney stones from collagen mostly applies to people who are already prone to calcium oxalate stones. For a definitive answer tailored to your body's chemistry, a quick consultation with a general physician is your best bet.

To keep kidneys healthy, staying active is super important along with drinking water. I take a light collagen dose but also make sure I walk at least 10k steps daily. If your doctor says you are clear of stone risks, keeping active helps the body process nutrients better.
