Can codeine cause kidney stones?

I occasionally take codeine for severe pain, but I've recently been diagnosed with kidney stones. I'm concerned if there could be a connection. Can codeine cause kidney stones?

Yar, codeine se directly toh kidney stone nahi suna hai, par yeh constipation aur dehydration zaroor kar sakta hai, na? Aur agar body me paani kam hoga toh stones banne ka darr rehta hi hai.

There is no direct clinical evidence showing codeine causes kidney stones. However, since it is an opioid, it can cause urinary retention and dehydration. For accurate safety guidance regarding pain medications, a doctor's advice is always best.

Codeine can cause mild dehydration, which is a major risk factor for kidney stones. If your doctor allows, keep active with light walking and ensure you drink at least 3-4 liters of water daily to flush your kidneys properly.

Oh god, now I am anxious too because I took a cough syrup with codeine last week. I hope it doesn't cause stones. Are you feeling any pain in your lower back? Maybe we should both drink a lot of water and ask a doctor just to be completely safe.

My son was prescribed a codeine syrup once and I worried so much about side effects. The doctor reassured me that short-term use won't cause things like stones, but told us to give him plenty of fluids. Just make sure they drink enough water.

I had severe kidney issues because of ignoring medication side effects in the past. If you are taking codeine and feel any back pain or difficulty passing urine, please see a doctor immediately. Don't take kidney symptoms lightly.
