Can citric acid break down kidney stones?

I've been suffering from kidney stones for a while now. A friend told me that drinking lemon juice, which has citric acid, can help break them down. Is there any truth to this? Can citric acid really help dissolve kidney stones?

I literally just recovered from a 6mm kidney stone last month. Citric acid from lemons doesn't exactly dissolve existing big stones, but it definitely prevents them from growing and stops new ones from forming. Drink lots of nimbu paani!

I have been drinking lemon juice daily hoping to dissolve my 5mm stone, but I'm still anxious if it actually works or if I need surgery. Has anyone here actually successfully dissolved a stone using only natural citric acid?

I totally get it, kidney stone pain is absolutely unbearable and you want to try any remedy to dissolve them. Citric acid binds with calcium in urine to help prevent stones, but if the stone is already large, you will need a doctor's help.

I try to be very careful with kidney and metabolic health because of my PCOS. Citric acid is good for preventing calcium oxalate stones, but it might not work for all stone types. Please consult a doctor to get an ultrasound and proper guidance.

While citric acid increases urine pH and reduces the risk of stone crystallization, it is not a guaranteed cure for existing stones. Depending on the size and type of the stone, medical intervention might be necessary, so doctor's advice is always best.

Citrus fruits are nature's blessing for our kidneys. Staying well-hydrated with lemon water helps flush out toxins and keep the body clean. Have faith and drink plenty of fluids every day.
