Can chiropractors cause a stroke?

I have chronic back pain and someone suggested I visit a chiropractor. But my neighbor warned me, saying there's a small risk of serious complications like a stroke. Can chiropractors really cause a stroke during adjustments?

Honestly, those viral neck-cracking videos on social media scare the life out of me, feels like they might pop a circuit! While a stroke from it is extremely rare, it can happen if they mess with the neck arteries. Better stick to a normal massage or a safe physiotherapist.

Yes, sudden neck adjustments do carry a small risk of injuring the neck arteries, which can lead to stroke. Personally, I prefer building neck and core strength through guided exercises and walking once the orthopedic doctor gives the green light.

My elders always told me to be very careful with the neck area since it is so delicate. While some swear by chiropractic care, my family doctor warned me about the risk of vessel damage and stroke. I prefer trusting my physician's advice and doing safe physio.

In all my years, I have seen people try many alternative treatments, but neck manipulation is something I always advise my children to avoid. The risk of nerve or vascular injury is real. Stick to gentle traction and medical supervision as you grow older.

Consult a neurologist

Yes, it can. My neurologist at Apollo Hospital explicitly warned against chiropractic neck adjustments because of the stroke risk from arterial dissection. It's always best to ask your consulting doctor clearly before trying such procedures.

I totally get it, reading about these stroke risks when you are already suffering from neck stiffness is so frightening. It is true that high-velocity manipulation has some risk, so please don't feel pressured to do it. Your safety and peace of mind should always come first.

Look, simple logic—violently twisting the neck where major blood vessels run is risky. Cases of artery tears are documented, even if rare. Don't risk your life for a quick 'crack' sound, just consult a proper medical doctor first.
