Can chemotherapy cause fever?

My father is currently undergoing chemotherapy for his cancer, and he's been having fevers quite frequently. We're a bit worried. Is it common for chemo to cause fever, or should we be very concerned about this new development?

Beta, chemotherapy lowers your body's immunity, which is why a fever can happen easily. Please do not try any home remedies or basic herbal teas to treat a chemo fever. You must contact your doctor immediately to check your white blood cell count.

Yes, chemotherapy can definitely cause a fever. It is very important to contact your oncology team immediately when this happens, as it can be a sign of infection.

I totally get it, seeing a fever spike during chemotherapy is incredibly scary and stressful. But please remember that a chemo fever is something the doctors need to know about right away because of low white blood cells. Stay strong and call your hospital immediately.

Yes, we saw this happen quite often during my sister's treatment. A mild fever can sometimes happen just from the medicines, but we were strictly told to report even a small temperature rise to the clinic. Please stay calm, but do inform your doctor right away.

Please be extremely careful. I had a fever during my second chemo cycle and delayed going to the hospital, which turned into a severe blood infection (neutropenic sepsis). A fever during chemo is a medical emergency, so please contact your doctor or go to the ER immediately.

Well, your body is basically in a high-stakes battle right now, so a fever is just your internal engine heating up! But seriously, oncologist rules are strict: any fever needs a quick call to the clinic. Don't play doctor yourself, just give them a ring!

Do not ignore a fever during chemo, even if it feels mild. I once thought it was just normal weakness, but it was a serious infection due to low immunity. Please get a proper medical checkup done immediately; don't wait for it to go down on its own.
