Can celiac cause elevated liver enzymes?

My recent blood tests showed slightly elevated liver enzymes, and my doctor is still trying to figure out why. I also have some gut issues that make me suspect celiac disease. Is it possible that undiagnosed celiac could be the reason for my liver enzyme levels being high?

Please do not ignore this at all. I once had slightly high liver reports and ignored them thinking it was just due to outside food, but it turned into a major issue. Elevated liver enzymes can definitely be linked to untreated celiac, so please get a proper medical checkup immediately.

Arey, who knew a wheat allergy could upset the liver too? It's like your stomach is fighting with your liver over a roti! Don't panic though, once you drop the gluten, your liver usually calms down. Just get your doctor to guide you on this.

It is actually quite common for untreated celiac to affect the liver and raise your enzyme levels. The most practical solution is to go strictly gluten-free after consulting your doctor. Get your liver function tests repeated after a few weeks of dieting to see if they improve.

My son had elevated SGOT and SGPT levels when he was diagnosed with celiac disease. Our doctor assured us that once his gut started healing on a strict gluten-free diet, his liver enzymes would return to normal, and they did. Please work closely with a pediatric gastroenterologist.

Yes, I had this exact issue during my diagnosis. The liver inflammation is often a response to the systemic inflammation caused by gluten in celiac patients. Stick to a 100% gluten-free diet and monitor your liver panel every three months; you should see a significant improvement.

Do not start taking any herbal liver tonics or internet remedies for this. Elevated liver enzymes can point to various issues, and if you have celiac, only a proper doctor-prescribed medical plan and strict diet can help. Get it verified by a specialist.

I was absolutely terrified when my liver reports came back high alongside my celiac diagnosis. But my doctor calmly explained that it's a very common reaction and it normalizes once the gut heals. Within six months of going gluten-free, my levels were completely perfect, so don't worry.
