Can cavities cause earaches?

My son has been complaining of earaches, and when I looked in his mouth, I saw a dark spot on one of his back teeth. Could this be related? Can cavities cause earaches in children?

Beta, don't worry too much. I had this exact issue ten years ago where my whole left ear was paining badly, and I thought it was an ear infection. Turned out it was just a deep cavity in my back molar. Once the dentist cleaned it up, the ear pain vanished completely.

Please get it checked by a dentist immediately. Ear pain from cavities usually means the decay has reached the root or caused an infection. It's not safe to ignore this because dental infections can spread very quickly if left untreated.

Oh, absolutely! At this age, a toothache doesn't stay in the tooth, it invites the ear and head to the party too. I spent two weeks putting ear drops before realizing my back tooth had a massive hole. Save yourself the trouble and just see a dentist first.

You can try pressing a clove near the aching tooth or rinsing with warm salt water for temporary relief. It really helps soothe the area. But if the earache is severe, don't just rely on home remedies and book a dentist appointment soon.

My grandmother always says that the nerves in our teeth and ears are connected, so tooth issues often travel up. But honestly, it is always best to visit your dentist to be sure. A quick checkup or x-ray will clear all your doubts.
