Can carpal tunnel cause neck pain?

I've had carpal tunnel symptoms for a while, mostly in my hands. But recently, I started getting a stiff neck and some discomfort there. Can carpal tunnel actually cause neck pain, or is it a separate issue I should get checked?

Yes, because of the way we sit and type, carpal tunnel and neck pain often go hand-in-hand. Try adjusting your chair height, keep your computer at eye level, and take a 5-minute break every hour to stretch your neck. It works wonders.

I absolutely panicked when my neck started aching along with my numb fingers, thinking it was a major spine issue. But my doctor reassured me that bad posture causing carpal tunnel can also strain your neck muscles. It is very common, so please don't worry.

Beta, the nerves of the hand originate from the neck itself. If you sit bent all day, both will pain. Put some warm mustard oil on your neck and do gentle neck turns daily. Do not ignore your posture.

Yes, I suffered from this double pain. A hot water bag on my neck and wearing a wrist brace at night really helped relieve the pressure. Be gentle with your body and don't lift heavy things until the pain reduces.

While it can be related, sudden or severe neck pain with numbness should never be self-treated. It could be a cervical disc problem. Please get it checked by an orthopedic doctor to get a correct diagnosis.

I just recovered from this. Actually, a pinched nerve in the neck (cervical radiculopathy) can mimic carpal tunnel symptoms in your hand. I had to get a proper physical therapy routine to fix both my neck and wrist.
