Can cancer patients donate organs?

Our family recently discussed organ donation, and my aunt, who battled cancer years ago, was interested. We weren't sure if her medical history would be an issue. Can individuals who have had cancer still donate their organs?

My family looked into this recently. Generally, active cancer patients can't donate solid organs like kidney or liver because of the risk of transmitting cancer cells to the recipient. But cornea donation is sometimes allowed. Best to ask the doctors directly.

It's wonderful that you are thinking about this. However, to protect the recipient, organ donation is usually not possible for those with active cancer or a history of certain cancers. Let's focus on taking care of the patient's health right now.

Normally, active cancer is a contraindication for solid organ donation due to transmission risks. But eye donation (cornea) is often permitted. If you are making a decision, please have a quiet word with the hospital's transplant coordinator.

The desire to help others is a beautiful thing. While physical organs might not be accepted by medical boards due to the illness, we can always keep our intentions pure and positive. Do speak to the medical staff to know the legal rules.

I was reading up on this over my morning coffee. Because of the cancer cells and medications in the system, solid organs are usually off-limits for donation. But do check with a medical authority for the exact guidelines.

This is such an important but stressful topic. I get so anxious reading about medical procedures, but I know safety protocols are there for a reason. Please consult the treating hospital to clear up these doubts once and for all.

Organ donation guidelines are incredibly strict to ensure recipient safety. Active malignancy usually rules out solid organ donation, though tissue donation like corneas has different rules. I highly recommend consulting an authorized transplant specialist for correct guidance.

I didn't know about this at all. Does this rule apply even if the person has been cancer-free for many years? If anyone has gone through the process of pledging, please let me know.
