Can calcium carbonate cause kidney stones?

My doctor recommended I take calcium supplements, specifically calcium carbonate, for bone health. However, a friend warned me that it might cause kidney stones. Is there a risk of developing kidney stones from taking these supplements?

Haan na, even I was worried about this when my doc prescribed calcium supplements. Actually, calcium carbonate can cause stones if we don't take it with food or if we drink very little water. Always better to ask the doctor for the right dose, ho na?

I literally spend hours researching this because I am so scared of getting kidney stones. Some articles say calcium carbonate requires stomach acid to absorb, so if it's not absorbed well, it might cause issues. Please ask your doctor if you can switch to another form just to be safe.

If you are active, lifting weights, and drinking enough water, the risk is much lower. Most people get stones because they take high-dose supplements while sitting all day and barely drinking water. Keep moving and stay hydrated.

Practically speaking, calcium carbonate has a high amount of elemental calcium, and if taken in excess without proper hydration, it can increase stone risk. It is best to take it strictly as prescribed by your doctor and drink plenty of water to help your kidneys.

Don't worry too much! Just make sure to take your calcium tablet with your meals and drink lots of water throughout the day. 😊 If you are still unsure, your doctor can easily guide you on the best type of calcium for your body! 👍

I completely understand the anxiety of taking supplements when you fear side effects, it is so stressful to balance. Just make sure you discuss this fear with your doctor. They can adjust the dosage or suggest the right timing to put your mind at ease.

Look, if you take calcium pills like candies without a doctor's prescription, of course it can cause kidney stones. Get a simple blood test done to see if you actually need calcium first, then take whatever medicine the doctor tells you.
