Can blood thinners cause a stroke?

My father takes blood thinners after his heart surgery. Someone mentioned that blood thinners can sometimes cause a stroke. Is this true, and should we be worried?

My father has been on blood thinners for years. While they prevent ischemic strokes, if the dose is too high, it can rarely cause a bleeding stroke. That is why it is extremely important to get your PT-INR tests done regularly as prescribed by the doctor to keep the dosage safe.

Blood thinners are actually trying to do the exact opposite and protect you! But yes, like any superhero, they have a small side effect risk if the balance goes off. Just follow your doctor's orders and don't try to play scientist with your dose.

I agree with what others said. Blood thinners are mostly safe, but if you notice sudden numbness, severe headache, or confusion, please seek emergency medical help immediately.

It is completely natural to have these worries when starting heavy medications. Please don't worry too much and discuss this concern with your cardiologist so they can reassure you.

I can only share what happened in my family. My uncle was prescribed blood thinners after his heart surgery and the doctor explained that they are meant to prevent clots. He never faced any major issues as long as he took the exact prescribed dose.
