Can black mold cause cancer?

I noticed quite a bit of black mold in our old godown, and I've been spending some time there cleaning. My wife got worried and asked if black mold can cause cancer. Is this something I should be seriously concerned about?

Let's be realistic, it won't give you cancer overnight. But it will definitely ruin your lungs and cause chronic allergies. Clean it with vinegar or bleach and keep your rooms ventilated.

Oh my god, I got so anxious when I saw mold behind my wardrobe! While it is highly unlikely to cause cancer directly, it can cause severe lung infections and asthma. Please get it cleaned up to ease your mind.

My son had constant coughing because of mold on our damp walls. While there is no direct link to cancer, it causes terrible respiratory issues in kids. Please get professional damp-proofing done for your family's health.

Some molds produce mycotoxins which are toxic, but cancer is a very rare extreme. However, if you are experiencing chronic cough, chest tightness, or fatigue, please see a specialist immediately instead of ignoring it.

Try not to worry too much about cancer, but yes, it is very bad for your breathing. Just try to clean it up soon and keep your windows open for fresh air.

There is no strong medical proof that black mold causes cancer, but it definitely causes severe lung allergies.
