Can being scared cause a heart attack?

After a very shocking incident recently, my heart was pounding so fast for a long time. Can extreme fear or a sudden scare actually trigger a heart attack?

From what I know, extreme fear or shock can cause a sudden surge of adrenaline which mimics heart attack symptoms, but a real heart attack usually involves blocked arteries. I am not an expert, so if you are feeling any tightness or severe chest pain, please visit a hospital immediately.

I have heard that panic attacks can feel exactly like a heart attack, which is so scary. Does anyone know if there is a way to tell the difference between the two when you are suddenly feeling extremely frightened?

When a person gets a sudden fright, their heart beats very fast. We usually give them a glass of warm water and tell them to take deep breaths to calm down. But beta, if there is actual pain in the chest or arm, do not wait for home remedies, take them to the doctor immediately.

Listen, extreme fear or panic can make your heart race and give you chest discomfort, which is very scary but usually harmless. However, we should never take chest pain lightly. If you or someone else is experiencing severe chest pain, radiating pain, or breathing trouble, please go to the nearest emergency room right away.

I get super anxious and my heart starts pounding like crazy when I get scared, which feels awful. Panic attacks can really mimic heart issues. However, if there is actual crushing pain, sweating, or dizziness, that is a medical emergency and needs a doctor right away.

Yes, a sudden scare spikes your heart rate rapidly, which my smartwatch often tracks during high-stress moments. While extreme emotional stress can rarely trigger a condition called broken heart syndrome, if you are experiencing actual chest pressure or shortness of breath, you must seek medical help immediately.

Honestly, watching a horror movie late at night makes my heart beat so fast I feel like it's going to jump out. But jokes aside, while panic can feel like a heart attack, a real heart attack is a medical emergency. If you have any red-flag symptoms, please get to a doctor pronto.

I once brushed off severe chest tightness as just a panic attack from stress, and it turned out to be a major cardiovascular issue that required urgent treatment. Please never make the mistake of assuming. If you are experiencing any chest pain or numbness, seek emergency medical care immediately.
