Can augmentin cause nausea and vomiting?

I was prescribed Augmentin for a bacterial infection, and after taking it, I started feeling really nauseous and then vomited a couple of times. I'm not sure if it's a normal side effect. Can Augmentin cause both nausea and vomiting?

Yes, absolutely! Augmentin is famous for upsetting the stomach. My doctor always prescribes a pantocid or some antacid to take beforehand, and suggests having probiotics or curd during the day. It really helps soothe the tummy.

I completely panicked when I threw up after taking my first Augmentin dose last year! But my doctor reassured me that it is actually very common with strong antibiotics. He told me to always eat a good meal before taking the tablet, and that totally fixed it.

Yes, it can upset the stomach. Since I manage my diabetes, I have to be careful with vomiting because it can mess up my blood sugar levels and food intake. If you are diabetic, monitor your sugars closely and check with your doctor if the vomiting doesn't stop.

My doctor explained that the clavulanate potassium in Augmentin is what usually triggers stomach irritation and nausea. He advised me to never take it on an empty stomach and prescribed an anti-vomiting medicine to take 30 minutes before. It worked perfectly.

Please be very careful. When I took Augmentin, the vomiting became so severe that I got completely dehydrated and had to be hospitalized for IV fluids. If you are throwing up constantly, don't wait at home, see your doctor immediately to change the antibiotic.

It can definitely cause nausea. Drinking some buttermilk or having a bowl of curd can help restore the good gut bacteria. However, if the vomiting is severe and you can't keep any food or medicines down, please consult your doctor immediately.

Augmentin is great for killing infections but it definitely tries to kill your appetite too! I spent two days feeling like I was on a rocky boat. Just don't take it on an empty stomach unless you want to get very close to your bathroom tiles.
