Can atorvastatin cause joint pain?

I started taking Atorvastatin for my cholesterol a few months ago, and since then, I've been having quite a bit of joint pain in my knees and shoulders. I never had this before. Can atorvastatin be the cause of joint pain?

I completely understand how worrying this must be, because any new pain makes us feel like something is terribly wrong. Yes, atorvastatin is known to cause muscle and joint pain in some people. Please don't panic, but do talk to your doctor so they can adjust the dosage or change the medicine safely.

My father recently started taking atorvastatin and he has been complaining of knee and ankle pain. Is this a common thing that goes away on its own, or should we call his doctor immediately? We are a bit confused.

Yes, statins like atorvastatin can cause muscle or joint aches. I take BP medication and have to do regular checkups to monitor these side effects. Make sure you get your routine blood tests done and discuss this with your physician.

Haan na, my uncle also had terrible calf and joint pain after starting this. At first we thought it was just age, but the doctor said it was the medicine. It's better to ask the doctor to change it, kyu naye dard se suffer karna.

Actually, yes! My mom faced this exact issue with her cholesterol medicine last year. Her doctor changed her brand and the joint pain totally stopped. Don't worry, just tell your doctor about it and they will easily find an alternative.

Actually yaar, statins are quite famous for causing muscle and joint pain. My dad had the same issue and his doc had to reduce the dose. Don't ignore it, just check with your doctor once.

Hey, don't worry too much, this is actually a known side effect of atorvastatin. Please don't stop the medicine abruptly on your own though. Just give your doctor a call, and they will probably do a simple blood test or switch you to a different cholesterol drug.
